Foot conditions

Author

Each of your feet is made up of 26 small bones, held together by a variety of ligaments, muscles and tendons. Each foot has two arches, one running lengthways from your toe to your heel, and another across the middle of your foot, higher on the inside and touching the ground at the outer border of your foot.

Our feet work hard for us every day, and, partly as a result of this, foot conditions are common, with over one person in three suffering problems at some time. Corns, calluses, ingrown toenails and smelly, sweaty feet are the most common foot conditions among adults. For more information about them, click the links above.

Other foot conditions are discussed elsewhere on boots.com (see blisters, bunions, verrucas, athlete's foot, heel pain, foot and circulation problems caused by diabetes and fungal nail infections). Another condition that commonly affects the big toe is gout, while psoriasis can affect the soles of the feet.
