Copper is a mineral that is mainly stored in the liver. It is vital for the formation of important proteins made in the body. For example, copper forms part of many enzymes: proteins that regulate chemical reactions in the body. It is also needed for proteins involved in growth, nerve function and energy release.
Food sources
Good sources of copper include:
- bananas
- brazil nuts
- breakfast cereals
- brown pasta
- dried apricots
- lamb’s liver
- wholemeal bread.
