Most people with chlamydia don't know they have it. That's why we can't say exactly how many people are affected.

We do know that in the UK chlamydia is the most common infection to be passed on during sex.[1] We also know that chlamydia is getting more common, and the numbers having been rising steadily since the mid-1990s.[2] [3]

In the UK in 2004, about 1 in 100 women aged 16 to 19 and 1 in 100 men aged 20 to 24 definitely had chlamydia.[2]
