Blisters - Prevention
If a blister is caused by friction, try to discover what caused it and take steps to prevent it happening again.
- Friction blisters on your hands can often be prevented by wearing gloves.
- New or ill-fitting shoes can cause blisters so wear new shoes for short periods of time until you’ve broken them in.
- If the problem is caused by shoes that are too large, try wearing thicker socks or stockings with them. These will stop your foot slipping around inside the shoe. Padded insoles can also help.
- Some people find that putting talcum powder on their feet can help to prevent blisters. This is because talcum powder makes your feet more slippery and reduces the amount of friction.
- Special double-layered sports socks can help prevent blisters when you’re running or walking long distances.
